HF Houses - Whitby Town and Harbour
On this page I have put information and pictures about:
- Larpool Hall to Bus Station and Town
- Larpool Hall to Abbey
- Larpool Hall to Pannett Park, Art Gallery and Museum
- North Promenade
- Harbour
- Other Pictures of Town
If you walk down to the centre of Whitby there are some footpaths to avoid most of the road walking. Walking to the centre of Whitby involves some descent and therefore ascent in the other direction. It is also possible to catch a bus. I have put some options on this page:
Larpool Hall to Bus Station and Town
From the house Larpool Drive and Larpool Lane:
At the crossroads you could go straight ahead and down to the town via the swing bridge.
I think its a bit quicker to turn left over the new bridge, but the path is a bit steeper.
Cross the road and walk across the bridge:
| Immediately on the other side of the bridge is a path down to the town: | |
| Then a road goes to the left of the railway and emerges between the bus station and the train station. |
Larpool Hall to Pannett Park, Art Gallery and Museum
There is a walk along the Cinder Track to Pannett Park. Leave the house via the garden through this gate to the Cinder Track.
| Turn right along the Cinder Track and over Larpool Viaduct: | |
There is a path turning off the Cinder Track to the right. This is an alternative way to get down to the town and bus station. |
| At the end of the Cinder Track turn right down these steps: |
| Across the road at the roundabout is Pannett Park: |
West Cliff
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to walk round the headland from the harbour so you have to go up over the West Cliff where the captain Cook statue is.
Harbour
| Some fellow guests went out on a whale watching cruise. They did see a whale and they recommended it. |
Other Pictures of Town

About This SiteHere is some information I have gathered together about getting to and walking from HF houses when leaving the car at home. On these pages I have also put some history about former HF houses I have visited. The information here is based on my visits to HF houses over the years. It may be out of date so don't rely on anything here without checking. If you find any errors why not let others know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial) Facebook forum. I will try to quote such posts here so they don't get lost. This is information I have discovered over the years which would have been useful to know before. Unfortunately the travel information on the HF website, for getting to houses by public transport, is poor. I think it would be better if the information on this page were on the HF website. |
