Walking from Monk Coniston - West Side of Coniston Water

First walk to Coniston, you could walk along the lake but, for a change, I left Monk Coniston between the boot room and the cottages and out through the double gate. Then opposite along a lane past Boon Crag Farm then left through a wood.

This goes down to Coniston past Dog Kennel Folly:

Gothic-style stone structure originally used to house foxhounds.

Then through Coniston:

Then up Yewdale road to Station Road where the old railway station once was:

Then along the old railway track, starting on Old Furness Road and then becoming a path:

The old track is quite high so there are views to Coniston Water:

At one point the path meets the A593 and you have to walk about 50 meters along the road until the path on the other side of the road.

The path goes past Coniston Park Coppice Caravan Club Site. There was a cafe & toilets there in the summer.

After that I took the path on the left toward the lake shore:

There are some camp sites by the shore so it can be quite busy in summer:

At some parts the path goes a bit inland:

When the path gets to lake road go right to Bluebird Cafe:

Then back to Monk Coniston via The Coniston Inn:

About This Site

Here is some information I have gathered together about getting to and walking from HF houses when leaving the car at home. On these pages I have also put some history about former HF houses I have visited.

The information here is based on my visits to HF houses over the years. It may be out of date so don't rely on anything here without checking. If you find any errors why not let others know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial) Facebook forum. I will try to quote such posts here so they don't get lost.

This is information I have discovered over the years which would have been useful to know before. Unfortunately the travel information on the HF website, for getting to houses by public transport, is poor. I think it would be better if the information on this page were on the HF website.
