Web pages about HF

On these web pages I have put some information that I have found about HF over the years. I did not want the information to get lost in case it is useful to me or others in the future.

Plus any other information about HF that I thought may be useful to others and that I did not want to get lost. If these pages can be improved please let me know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial).

Recent HF History

For the story of HF, from the start, see the Harry Wroe book which is online here. I am not trying to duplicate that I'm just trying to give a flavor of the changes I have seen in the 35 years that I have been an HF customer. For instance, some of the houses that have closed and some of the things HF have tried over the years.

Getting to HF and Self-guided Walks by Public Transport

In the old days, on the day before the last day of the holiday the manager put out a sheet for people to say what taxi they needed. At many houses that seems to have been quietly dropped now, it's just assumed that everyone is traveling by car.

The HF web site used to have guide prices for taxis to each house, that has also been quietly dropped.

HF are reducing the help they give to people traveling by public transport just at the time that its more difficult to get taxis. At some houses people have had to miss breakfast on the last day because taxis are all booked for school runs.

I think HF members care about the environment, but not enough to leave the car at home it seems, even if people don't care about the environment we are all getting older and there are plans to be more strict about the medical requirements for driving licence's.

I would like HF to:

About This Site

Here is some information I have gathered together about getting to and walking from HF houses when leaving the car at home. On these pages I have also put some history about former HF houses I have visited.

The information here is based on my visits to HF houses over the years. It may be out of date so don't rely on anything here without checking. If you find any errors why not let others know by putting a post on the HF Holiday Fans ( unofficial) Facebook forum. I will try to quote such posts here so they don't get lost.

This is information I have discovered over the years which would have been useful to know before. Unfortunately the travel information on the HF website, for getting to houses by public transport, is poor. I think it would be better if the information on this page were on the HF website.
